I couldn't. Apart from DP and I not being able to spend that much time apart, I couldn't do it to the kids.. They would miss their dad like crazy and that's not fair on them...
That is my conundrum currently. I lost my job and the market just isn't moving at present. There's a mortgage to pay and plenty of mouths to feed. The kids are young - all below year 1. My best chance of employment is on the other side of the planet. The best place for the kids is where they are. Regardless of what I want they couldn't follow until I was fully settled and secure in my employment in case the same thing happened again. This leaves my choice as:

  1. Go to the other side of the planet, only see the kids on the computer but the rest of their life is unchanged (daycare, friends, environment) in the mean time
  2. Stay and look for work locally but face the very real chance that we will have to sell the house with all the changes that will involve. Perhaps even go bankrupt.


Sometimes the choice just doesn't really seem like much of one either way.
